Additional agronomic information
High vegetative vigor, excellent response to pruning and ease of mechanized harvesting. It produces less in the first harvests, increasing productivity over the years. Excellent response to pruning. Widly cultivated in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Yield and rust resistance for this variety were globally evaluated at 23 sites in 15 countries as part of WCR’s International Multilocation Variety Trial. A variety's local performance may vary based on which races of rust are present in the environment.

History
"Paraíso MG H 419-1 is a rust-resistant variety developed in Brazil by the breeding teams at EPAMIG and the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). It originated in 1980 from a cross between Catuaí Amarelo IAC 30 and the Timor Hybrid UFV 445-46, a rust-resistant selection from the Coffee Rust Research Center in Portugal. Field evaluations at the EPAMIG Experimental Farm in São Sebastião do Paraíso showed that Paraíso plants are shorter and more compact than Catuaí with higher yields over the first four harvests. The variety shows high resistance to coffee leaf rust and segregating resistance to root-knot nematodes. Introduced to Costa Rica in 2008, Paraíso is part of a newer generation of rust-resistant varieties that are beginning to gain recognition outside Brazil, especially in Central America."
